Problem
Students and young professionals moving to a new city face unverified broker listings with inflated rents, scattered WhatsApp groups, little trusted local guidance and real safety concerns.
Approach
LocalLoop puts relocation in one community-driven platform built on three pillars: housing discovery, community groups and a mentor network. It runs on Next.js, NestJS and PostgreSQL, with Socket.io for real-time chat and a Cerebras-powered assistant.
What it does
- Housing discovery. PG, hostel and flat listings with an ML rent predictor that flags overpriced ones, map exploration, filters and reviews.
- Community. University, professional, hometown and newcomer groups, polls and group chat.
- Mentors. Reputation levels from Explorer to Local Mentor gate who can mentor.
- Women mode. Women-only spaces, mentor recommendations and safety-tagged housing.
Outcome
The rent model reaches 85%+ accuracy, and the app is live. The code is open source.
